Learning the South Carolina State Requirements for Auto Insurance!

This is a common question many people ask when they are purchasing or registering a car in the state of South Carolina.  If you ever plan on registering your car in the state of South Carolina then auto insurance is required.

South Carolina requires that you have a minimum of:

1.  Liability: When you are at fault for hitting someone else.

$25,000 per person, $50,000 per accident, $25,000 property damage(Also known as 25/50/25)

2.  Uninsured: When somebody hits you who does not have car insurance.  This covers both the people in your car and you.

$25,000 per person, $50,000 per accident, $25,000 property damage.  (25/50/25)

These are the minimum coverages you must have in order to register your car in the state of South Carolina.

Not required but highly recommended:

3.  Underinsured: This is in case somebody hits you who has insurance but not enough to cover the extent of the damages you ensued.

The minimum coverages recommended are $25,000 per person, $50,000 per accident, $25,000 property damage.

(This is minimum coverage, but is not full coverage.  You may need additional coverages.  Call an agent at Davis & Massey to discuss the coverages you need.)
